Did you know that doubt will destroy your faith and cancel your blessings from God? God says that when we come to Him, we must come in faith. I recently posted a blog on God Is No Respecter Of Persons, But He Is A Respecter Of Faith. It’s up to us to walk by faith and trust Him for everything!
Mark 11:22-24 tells us:
22“Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. 23“Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. 24Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
This is such a powerful passage of Scripture in the Living Word of God, that I’d like to break it down a little. Because it’s very specific about what our faith walk will produce if we do not doubt.
v. 22 “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. – Let’s pause on this thought for a moment. “Have” means to possess or own. “Faith” means trust, belief, confidence, and conviction. So Jesus is saying, “Monica, possess and own your trust, belief, confidence, and conviction in God.” Whew! That’s powerful.
v.23 “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.” “Truly” means without question or doubt. He’s saying, “Monica, without question or doubt, if you will say to your mountain….”
By the way, why do you think of all illustrations He could have used, He chose mountains? Here’s why I think He said mountain. Because they’re MASSIVE! IMMOVABLE! DAUNTING! A mountain isn’t budging. But Jesus says that if we speak to that mountain and don’t doubt in our hearts, and believe what we say, that the mountain will be thrown into the sea. Why the sea? I think it’s because the only thing wide enough and deep enough to completely absorb a mountain is a large body of water. Like a sea.
But God is Who He is, which means that His promise is conditional. And the condition is “don’t doubt”. Why does He have this condition? Because doubt is a deliberate suspension of judgement, to believe that something may not be true, to have no confidence in.
v. 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. It’s still written in red, so you know Jesus is still talking to us. And did you catch that He said “received”? That’s past tense. Meaning you already have it! By faith. Because faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Heb 11:1)
So let me summarize why doubt needs a one-way bus ticket out of your life. Because Jesus said so. 🙂
All of us have things in our lives that seem massive and immovable and daunting. Things that are depressing to look at or experience. Bills, impending divorce, marital infidelity, out of control kids, job loss. Mountains! And Jesus didn’t tell us that He would speak to our mountains for us. No, He instructs us to do it. He instructs us to speak. So when you’re praying, “Oh Lawd, oh Lawd, my child is out of control. She’s stealing, and she keeps on messing up. Blah blah blah,” please know that your prayer will be ineffective. Because you’re praying the problem. And He already knows your problem. He didn’t tell you to come to Him and whine about your problem. No. He said SPEAK to your problem. Don’t doubt. Believe. Pray in faith. And you will receive! So maybe your prayer could go something more like this, “In the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, I command that flesh devil to come out of my daughter right now! Lord, restore her to You! And I believe that by Your power, I can speak to this mountain and it must obey. Blah blah blah”. Do you see the difference? And because He tells you that when you pray in faith, nothing wavering, you’ve already received what you prayed. So your daughter is delivered from that moment. Now it’s time to give thanks and praise. Believe it, even when you can’t see it. 🙂
It’s easy to doubt when you’re looking at your great big ol’ mountain. But once you Establish Within Yourself That God Cannot Lie and understand that nothing in the Bible was written just for kicks and giggles, then you’ll understand why He gave us Mark 11:22-24.
So, go on, give doubt that one-way bus ticket, and wave goodbye. Your future success and victory in life depends on it!
